With the stresses of everyday modern life, massage and aromatherapy are becoming hugely popular the world over. Relaxing mind and body in harmony, aromatherapy massage eases stress and tension to give comfort and relief from aches and pains, and the worries of everyday life. Aromatherapy works on a belief that the most valuable way to encourage health and prevent illness is to strengthen the body’s immune system, in so doing; it helps restore the harmony between body and mind, therefore supporting and healing the patient from the inside out. Aromatherapy is a healing art, therapeutically treating body, mind and spirit; and combined with holistic massage is a powerful blend. It is becoming very popular and the fastest growing of all the complementary therapies. We use an extensive range of essential oils, amongst them the most popular essential oils are;
We also use a wide range of carrier oils some of which are;
Herbal oils are also extremely therapeutic for the skin, such as Calendula herbal oil, Calendula officinalis, which is a cool and neutral oil, and is excellent for burns, scars, blemishes, acne, eczema and is a general tonic for the complexion. Arnica herbal oil, Arnica Montana, is also cool and neutral, and is beneficial for alopecia nervosa, headaches, restoring the nervous system and mental fatigue; relieving muscular pain and reducing inflammation, and it is also very beneficial to the cardiovascular system and the respiratory system. Carrot herbal oil, Daucus carota, is a warm, neutral moisture oil which supplies the skin with vitamin A benefiting dry skin condition, scar tissue and sunburn. It is beneficial to the urinary system and for gynaecological problems. It also helps with rheumatic pain and osteoarthritis. St. John’s Wort herbal oil, Hypericum perforatum, is a cool and dry oil, helping with depression, it psychologically eases nervous tension, agitation, restlessness, insomnia, anxiety and depression. It is also beneficial for dry, sensitive skin conditions, sunburn, wrinkles and cold sores. It helps with muscular sprains, muscular cramping and rheumatic pain, osteoarthritis and lumbago. It is also beneficial for menopausal problems. Aromatherapy with massage is a very well known form of treatment; they concentrate on releasing tension and stress on all the muscles as well as flushing out toxins through certain points in our bodies, called the lymph nodes. Massage together with essential oils can stimulate our mind and emotions through touch and pressure on our physical body, and the essential oils have a power all of their own. Since the word holistic means considering the whole person, physically, emotionally and mentally in the form of a treatment, there are a wide variety of treatments that affect the human body and soul to give balance and sense of well being and health, aromatherapy and massage is one of them. Aromatherapy helps the human body to heal and maintain health and protect the body just as they help maintain the plants where they come from. Essential oils are a necessity for plants and therefore nature, they are as vital to plants as instincts are to us. Essential oils are the plants defence system, immune system and reproductive system. Essential oils are also beneficial in creams and ointments, seeping into the skin to soothe aches and pains of the muscles and joints. They also benefit respiratory problems through smelling their aromas. Hot and cold compresses are direct treatments to the injured areas; cold compresses are beneficial for headaches and burning pain while hot compresses are for symptoms such as muscle ache and pain. Again smell is very important holistically. Still on the subject of smell, know as olfaction, treatments such as vaporisation and steam inhalation are very favourable and valuable for signs of coughs, sore throats, sinus, bronchial and many form of colds. Just by adding a few drops of essential oil to hot water and placing a towel over the head and breathing in the vapours, this can not only attack signs of infection but also stimulate the brain and enhance mood and uplift your emotion. Essential oils can remind you of happy memories and special people. Smells and fragrances are individual to each person and we are all influenced in different ways. We are born with our own smell intact and are instilled and inspired emotionally. Through our own experiences we build our own emotional fragrance diary. It is also possible, using psycho aromatherapy and environmental fragrancing, to manipulate mood or change perception through the use of subliminal smell. The same can be said of having a relaxing or stimulating bath. By adding a few drops of essential oils in to the bath water, the oils can be absorbed into the skin and the vapours inhaled simultaneously, relaxing or stimulating depending on the oils used, they can affect body and mind. A bath can release tension in the muscles and effect, by smell, the brain and, with out a doubt, the emotions. This is known as a holistic experience. Essential oils are antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti infectious, antispasmodic, anti rheumatic, carminative, digestive stimulant, diuretic, expectorant, neurotonic, anticatarrhal, antidepressive, cardiotonic, cicatrisant, anti-inflammatory, a general tonic and have many more health benefits. An aromatherapy treatment can help with: Stress - Anxiety - Lethargy - Eczema - Depression - Tension - Sprains and strains Essential oils can help if you are restless or anxious, downhearted or agitated, confused or obsessive, uninspired or heartbroken. They can uplift and refresh your mind and body and also help with the digestive system, immune system, circulatory system, lymphatic system, cardiovascular system, nervous system and the integumentary system.
